San Bernardino County, CA, Crews Rescue Woman from Storm Drain

The victim was stuck inside a narrow section of underground drain, San Bernardino County firefighters said.

San Bernardino County firefighters put their technical rescue skills for cconfined space to the test Tuesday when a woman got stuck in a storm drain.

Witnesses called 9-1-1 after hearing a woman crying for help, KCAL reported.

Crews found her stuck inside a narrow section of underground storm drainage. They ventilated the area to provide fresh air while they worked on their plan.

The woman told firefighters she had become stuck approximately 15 feet back from the opening.

"With no room to turn around, the patient was then coached to inch herself backwards about 20 feet, where another crew opened another access point, made entry into the pipe and assisted her to safety," firefighters said.

She was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation but crews said she did not have any obvious injuries. She was dry as there was no water in the drain.

It was unclear how far back in the drainage system the patient, found unclothed above the waist, had gone. They also don't know how long she'd been in there.
